Traditional Chinese medicine (TCMD) is a medical system that has been used for over thousands of years to prevent, diagnose, and treat disease, aiming to restore the body’s balance and harmony.
There are 4 pillars of TCMD:
Acupuncture remains the most common form of traditional medicine practice. Acupuncture is all about organs, it involves the insertion of very thin needles through your skin at strategic points on your body.
Acupuncture is most commonly used to treat pain. Increasingly, it is being used for overall wellness, including stress management.
The practitioner will examine your face, tongue and pulse to identify concerns and proceed with a diagnosis. This holistic method allows the practitioner to consider the whole body to see where the problems lie.
Working with our central nervous system, acupuncture has faster results.
Traditional Chinese medicine is drug-free. Minerals are the base of our body and most, if not all, of us are often mineral deficient. This holistic treatment includes suggestions of herbs and/or minerals that our body's need to balance.
During the session with Dr. Montgomery, he may have some dietary or exercise recommendations, working in conjunction with Nicole, our in-house Nutritionist and Erin Walton, our in-house Rehabilitation Program Coordinator, for diet & exercise advice.
Dr. Don Montgomery is our internationally trained TCMD and Acupuncturist. He earned his Acupuncture Diploma along with a diploma in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) from the Alberta College of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine in Calgary, Alberta. Don became a Registered Acupuncturist with the province of Alberta in December of 2007.
The highlight of his studies was a thirteen-week internship at the Zhejiang University of TCM in Hangzhou, mainland China, where he developed an even greater appreciation for the integration of TCM into mainstream medicine.
In his research, Dr. Don has found that TCMD is a holistic medicine that treats your full system drug free. More recently Don has incorporated a variety of other modalities which are complementary to his practice. Don’s mission is to help solve health issues in a “feel good” way, treating each person as a unique individual.
Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture may be used to treat a myriad of complaints, including neck pains, sciatica pain, insomnia, etc, and works well with all other health care therapies.
